Organisation

The lectures and exercises take place in the lecture hall R3, in the Montefiore Institute (B28).

The laboratory sessions take place in R134, in the Montefiore Institute (B28).

Laboratory Exercises

The laboratories are mandatory. Groups of three students will use Quanser's "DC Motor Control Trainer" (www.quanser.com). To familiarise yourself, read the introduction that describes the general principles of the dynamics of an electric motor, as well as Sections B.2.3, B.2.4 and B.2.5 of the Quanser manual on the secure web page. The notes for the different lab session can be found in the table above

Exam:

The written exam takes place in January and counts for 100% of the final mark.

• Content: all content of ex-cathedra teaching, exercises and labs;
• all books, papers, written notes allowed
• electronic equipment (calculator, computers etc.) not allowed
• Duration: 4 hours.

The exam in the August/September session will consist of a written and an oral exam.

• Content: same as for the January exam, i.e. all content of ex-cathedra teaching, exercises and labs;
• Duration: 4h written exam and 30min per student for the oral one;
• Style of the oral exam: questions & answers, without offline preparation time; answers will not require calculations, instead the emphasis will be on understanding.
• For both oral and written exam:
  • all books, papers, written notes allowed
  • electronic equipment (calculator, computers etc.) not allowed
