Seminar : Sound fields in rooms – Models and applications

Abstract:

Since the early days of Sabine’s definition of the reverberation time, several theories have emerged for modelling sound fields in rooms, ranging from simple energetic balance developed in analogy with the kinetic theory of gases, to elaborate wave models or semiclassical approximation.

We will review these models, and explain what they are useful for and what specific information each of them deliver. The presentation concludes with some recent results obtained with advanced energetic models based on the conservation of the stress-energy tensor.
